With this work, I aimed to advocate for both the use of masks and the abandonment of tobacco products (namely cigarettes). Adding small details like having the character look away from the camera and giving her a set of keys give the work a sense of humanity and relatability, which I used to make the piece feel more like an actual snippet of someone’s life. I decided to use a mostly monochromatic color scheme so that the small sections of yellow and red stood out to the viewer— that way, the work would be easy to understand even when given only a few seconds of inspection.
